Whether yours is a front or top loader, washing machines will in most cases experience some problems after considerable use. Given that washing machines are vital appliances in the house, identifying the problem and seeking the right remedy from an appliance repair technician is important. To do this, however, you need to have an idea of what's going on with your machine. Read on to learn about the most common washer faults and their causes.

Leaks

If your washing machine is leaking, the problem could be stemming from various areas. The inlet hoses at the back of the machine might be loosely connected. If not, the inlet terminal might have a loose valve that is not stopping water inflow. If your washer is leaking when in use, the drain plug(s) at the bottom of the washer bucket may be faulty.

Noisy sounds

Your washer should not make abnormal sounds apart from the gentle whirl you're used to. If you detect abnormal sounds, power off the machine immediately. A noisy washing machine could have a torn belt that is rotating around the motor. Alternatively, the motor could have a loose shaft or worn bearings that are causing vibration or grinding noises.

Washer won't rotate

If your washer won't rotate, but the motor sounds like it's operating, the problem could be a worn belt. Alternatively, if you don't hear any sound of life in your washer, your motor could have a problem, most likely a power failure. For machines that use couplings instead of a belt, they could be loose and thereby preventing transmission of power from the motor to the drum.

Washer won't drain

If your washing machine won't drain or drains too slowly, the problem could be the plug seals. These could be wrongly positioned or broken. In some other instances, the outer side of the drum could have dirt that is clogging the drain pores. In such a situation, it would have to be cleaned.

Not enough water

If your washer will not fill to the require levels, two reasons could be behind that. One, the inlet hoses might not be delivering water in the first place. Ensure you have an active water supply and that your tap is turned on. If not, the pump could be faulty. A technician will have to look at it and locate the problem.

Washer won't start

If your washer won't start, again, the problem could lie in several areas. The most likely one is the door switches. Door switches are safety features that ensure the washer is never on when open. Over time, they do get faulty and need to be replaced. If your washer turns on but won't work, the problem could be the motor or the electronic board (for those machines that have one).

As you can see, every problem has several possible causes behind it. That's why you should not try to fix your washer without the proper knowledge as you may tamper with the wrong areas. Instead, call a technician like Everlast to diagnose and fix it.
